2026.4.23 ”Welcoming a Guest Speaker (From the Job Hunting Seminar)”
This term, we invited Mr. Hiroshi Kakimoto from the Asian Commonwealth Association Japan (ACWA) as a guest speaker. He provided a detailed explanation of the current situation, needs, and challenges surrounding foreign workers in Japan’s labor market.
Since the introduction of the “Specified Skilled Worker” visa in 2019, the planned abolition of the Technical Intern Training Program, and the launch of the Employment for Skill Development program, as well as changes in procedures for switching to the “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services” visa, systems and procedures have been rapidly evolving. The discussion on what these changes mean and what lies ahead is highly relevant for international students currently engaged in job hunting.
Although we learn about these topics in class as theoretical knowledge, hearing real voices from the field made the issues feel more urgent and helped deepen our understanding.
We were also given an assignment to present our perspectives from the standpoint of foreign workers themselves. In early June we will give team presentations and receive evaluations.
