2025.9.8 “Cross-Cultural Understanding Collaborative Class” (from Job-Hunting Seminar)

When international students work in Japan, one of the obstacles they face in companies and society is misunderstanding caused by culturally rooted ways of thinking, invisible rules, and manners. Regardless of Japanese language proficiency, not knowing the background or meaning can lead to misunderstandings with Japanese people, sometimes causing negative effects. However, international students rarely have opportunities to talk with Japanese people about such themes, making it difficult to learn through real-life practice.

Therefore, we invited several Japanese guests from outside and held a class where students and Japanese participants could discuss together, gaining opportunities to understand different perspectives and cultural meanings.

We received cooperation from four members of Ark Design Co., Ltd.,( 株式会社アークデザイン) and carried out in-depth discussions based on case studies. Students recognized the gaps that exist and thought together about possible solutions. At first, some looked a little nervous, but as the discussions became livelier, some teams were so engaged that they took it as a great chance to have meaningful and deeper conversations.
