2023.6.19 “Field Study” (From Job Hunting Seminar)
In the Business Class Field Study, we visited the Osaka City Abeno Disaster Prevention Center, “Abeno TASCAL,” and learned about knowledge and skills through hands-on experiences. As Japan is a country prone to disasters, it is essential to have knowledge about disaster prevention as long as we live here. We thoroughly understood the geography and climate of Japan, particularly Osaka, in advance through our classes before embarking on the on-site experiential lessons.
No one knows when or where a disaster may occur. We experienced various scenarios within the facility, confirming knowledge and common sense that can lead to life-saving decisions, such as what to do during an earthquake inside a house or building, how to respond to a tsunami warning, firefighting activities during a fire, and evacuation methods to avoid smoke. Finally, we rode on a seismic device that simulates the intensity of the past Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the potential Nankai Trough Earthquake, both of which provided a realistic experience of the shaking. Even when knowing that the shaking is about to come, the actual intensity of a strong earthquake is truly terrifying. We realized the importance of individual preparedness for disaster prevention and made a firm commitment to be well-prepared. It was a day that allowed us to deeply understand the significance of disaster prevention knowledge and skills as we live and work as professionals in Japan.
