2025.9.16 “Field Study” (from Job-Hunting Seminar)

In the Business Class Field Study, we visited the Osaka City Abeno LIfe Safety Learning Center (ABENO TASUKARU) and learned knowledge and skills through hands-on experiences. In a disaster-prone country like Japan, disaster preparedness knowledge is essential. Before the visit, we studied the geography and climate of Japan, particularly Osaka, in class to gain a solid understanding, and then took part in the on-site experiential training.
No one knows when or where a disaster may strike. We practiced what to do if an earthquake occurs indoors, how to respond when a tsunami warning is issued, how to extinguish fires, and how to evacuate while avoiding smoke—confirming life-saving knowledge and common sense while experiencing different scenarios in simulated facilities.
At the end, we rode an earthquake simulation machine, which allowed us to experience both the seismic intensity of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the projected intensity of the potential future Nankai Trough Earthquake. Even knowing that the shaking was about to come, the strong tremors were far more frightening than expected. It made us reflect—“What if it strikes suddenly?”—and strengthened each participant’s determination to be well-prepared for disasters.
It was a meaningful day that gave us a deep understanding of the importance of disaster-prevention knowledge and skills for living as working adults in Japan.
